A lampshade created using the traditional Japanese art of origami
and the traditional Japanese material, washi paper.
Light passing through washi becomes exceptionally soft,
gently enveloping the surrounding space.
Using Kyō-karakami, a decorative paper tradition passed down in Kyoto for generations,
each piece is carefully folded by Kyoto-based hyōgushi (traditional mounting artisans). The structure relies solely on folding techniques refined through long experience, without the use of wooden or metal frameworks.
Several traditional motifs are available, each rooted in Japanese culture and symbolism.
Plain
Enjoy the natural beauty and subtle texture of washi paper.
Asanoha
A traditional hemp-leaf motif symbolizing healthy growth and protection. Its elegant geometric form has long been used in kimono and decorative arts.
Bundō-tsunagi
Inspired by the shape of traditional balance weights. The gracefully narrowed form creates a refined geometric pattern historically associated with prosperity.
Kōrin Ōnami
A bold wave motif inspired by the style of Ogata Kōrin, an influential artist of the Edo period. The design conveys both strength and quiet elegance.
Seigaiha
A traditional wave motif symbolizing peace, good fortune, and an enduring future. Inspired by the endless sea, it is one of Japan's most beloved patterns.
